San Antonio Opera www.saopera.com. Besides its regular season offerings, the SAO has a school program entitled Opera4Kids, the single most requested program from school administrators. Each year a 30 to 40 minute comic opera is chosen, the Opera auditions young professional talent, and tours the production to ten different school districts in the city. This year SAO will present "Gallantry, A Soap Opera in One Act" which focuses on providing the art form to middle school students and is sponsored by NuStar Energy. The newest program, Extreme Opera, brings opera into the high schools. This September, SAO will present a rock version of Mozart's great work, Don Giovanni, staged in a contemporary setting and starring high school age characters caught in many of the same situations for which the original opera is famous. The opera will deliver a strong message about actions and consequences to our high school audiences and will be reduced in length and sung in English, with orchestration and music for a rock ensemble. Sponsored by the AT&T Foundation. These programs are free to schools; if interested please contact Director Mark Richter at 210.225.5972.
